Insulin is allowed in hand luggage if it is needed during the flight. Do not check insulin in luggage—cargo hold temperatures can drop below zero, and frozen insulin may lose its properties.
Recommendations:
- Pack insulin in a transparent ziplock bag for airport security screening.
- Keep ampoules in their original packaging with labels and instructions.
- Bring a cooling case, especially for long flights or hot climates.
- Carry enough insulin for several days in your hand luggage to ensure safety in case of delays or lost baggage.
Syringes may be carried in hand luggage only if injections are essential during the flight. In this case, take only the quantity needed for the flight.
Needles for injections are only allowed with a doctor’s note confirming injections are required during the flight. Without the note, needles should be checked in luggage. The medical statement must be signed and stamped, and shown during security and customs checks on international flights.
Important: Inform customs and passport control staff about insulin in your hand luggage.
